MOSS

The 3 major  causes of black steaks and moss on your roof are Fungus , Gloeocapsa Magma Algae,and sphagnum moss  .  Fungus, algae,moss both begin their life cycle as airborne spores.  The north side of the roof is usually the first to exhibit staining and moss problem.  The moisture remains there longer and creates the ideal environment  for the fungus algae, and moss to grow. They derive their nutrition  from  the organic compound found in the base of the shingle, and fallen debris from trees.  Degradation of this base  results in the premature loss of the protective granules coating  your shingles. .

PHYSICAL REMOVAL

The first step to removing sphagnum moss from the roof is to physically  gather and dispose of the large pieces into a compost before applying our product. It is important to avoid clogging the home's gutter system while removing the moss. Blocking the downspouts can lead to overflowing of gutters and future water damage to the roof, so we have a vacuum to cleaned up all gutters check down pipes and leave it free flowing.

Herbicides containing zinc sulfate and potassium salts or chlorine bleach are  highly effective at killing moss, but not so good for environment and leaves the moss on your roof, we use two differnt products depends on severity, both bio degradable.


PREVENTION

Increasing airflow by cutting back nearby trees will help cut back on the moss, keeping roof cleaned when needed and sprayed every couple years but best to prevent moss then to watch it get out of control. Moss spores are airborn so its just a matter of time.
